Excursions - The Island of Elba

The third largest island in Italy and largest of the seven islands of the Tuscan archipelago, Elba offers not only a wealth of fine sandy beaches, cliffs dropping sheer into the sea, and clear waters, but also mediaeval villages, mountain paths, oak and chestnut forests where nature still reigns supreme over the landscape. The island is a constant source of discovery: the sea changes colour from one bay to the next; to the south breaking against white cliffs and over wide beaches, to the north filtering between the tall rocks or bathing hidden stony beaches. In a few minutes you move from the granite mountain of Monte Capanne, inhabited by wild sheep and goats, to the mining areas of the east that attract nature lovers and walkers.
